BYN kicked off in April 2005 with a social event at Wool Street Grill and Sports Bar. Targets ages 21-40, while also inviting young thinking and emerging professionals. Membership includes all types of professions from engineers to educators to entrepreneurs. BYN is spending its first years concentrating on bringing young talent together and showcasing the quality of life in the Barrington Area. As BYN moves thru its first year of programming, we will continue to work at showcasing the Barrington Area bringing young talent together while developing strategic initiatives to place BYN and its members in a position to make the Barrington Area more attractive to young talent.

Why all the fuss about young talent? Here are three seismic shifts affecting our businesses and community:

1.    The labor pool is shrinking. By 2008, two workers will leave the workforce for every one entering for a net shortage of 10 million employees.

2.    Youthful employees are a hot commodity. Our generation is the first YOUNGER generation to have deep skill sets in a core business function: technology.

3.    With so many employment options, young talent are FIRST picking a place to live; THEN finding a job.

These three critical, near term trends have enormous impact on how businesses choose sites, how talent choose jobs, and how communities attract and retain talent.

So what does our community need to do to make sure we can compete in the war for talent? It starts by engaging our young talent and connecting them to the community! BYN does this through programs, developed by young professional, with the purpose at ATTRACT and RETAIN our young talent in the Barrington Area.

BYN is a region-wide movement and resource for economic and community development. Current programs and those in development include:

  • Monthly networking events that showcase the Barrington Area;
  • Events that engage BYN in conversation around the issues that matter;
  • Barrington Area quality of life orientation and marketing programs;
  • Recruitment programs to assist HR departments; and
  • A community involvement program connecting BYN to leadership and service opportunities.
