One Voice Panel on Opioid and Heroin Crisis at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital
Panelists from the front lines of developing policy on the opioid and heroin crisis will speak on on August 18 at 8:30 a.m. at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 W.Highway 22 in Barrington. The panel includes federal, state and county officials who are working on the issue from a local, statewide and national perspective. An overview will be given of the latest programs being offered in the region to combat the tobacco, alcohol and prescription drug crisis. as well as the link between these substances and mental health. Learn how to help the many coalitions fighting this effort locally.
Biltmore Country Club Awards 26 Scholarships
Biltmore Country Club, 160 Biltmore Dr. in North Barrington, has awarded 26 recipients the Douglas Hudson Sr. Scholarship totaling $136,000 for the 2017-18 school year. Scholars are employed by Biltmore as food servers, caddies, golf course maintenance workers, lifeguards and camp counselors. The Douglas Hudson Sr. Biltmore Scholarship Foundation is funded entirely with the voluntary donations from Biltmore members, corporate donors and an endowment from the Douglas Hudson Sr. Family, which has supported a total of 46 scholars to date.
Heads Up Boutique Offers Double Loyalty Points
Heads Up Boutique, 200 E. Main St. in Barrington, is offering Double Points days in its new Loyalty Program. Enrolled customers receive two points for every dollar spent and every 250 points earns a $10 award for future purchases.
Long Grove Vintage Days Aug. 19-20
Vintage Days will be held on August 19-20 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in Historic Downtown Long Grove, 308 Old McHenry Rd. The event is a two-day street market for all things vintage, antique, reclaimed, re-purposed, up-cycled and handmade. This event is free and open to the public. There will be live music, local street food and a variety of fine wine and beer, tractor rides starting at noon, free ice cream on Saturday at the Long Grove Community Church, a Penny Carnival on Sunday, Face Painting and a Pop-Up Car Show (limited availability).
JourneyCare Memorial Golf Tournament Aug. 21
JourneyCare will host its Memorial Golf Tournament on August 21 at Glen View Club, 100 Golf Rd. in Golf starting at 10:30 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament directly support the fund for Palliative Care Education. Over the past nine years, the fund has helped to train fellows through the JourneyCare Fellowship Program. Glen View Club, once the home club of the legendary Chick Evans, is one of the Midwest’s most prestigious golf and country clubs, and was redesigned in 2013 by award winning architect Jim Urbina.
Season Sampler of Events at Barrington’s White House on Aug. 31
Barrington’s White House Season Sampler of upcoming arts and cultural events will take place on its Side Porch Stage from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on August 31. Learn about the fall season of performers and speakers and visit with local arts organizations and businesses to find out how you or your child can participate in dance, theater, painting, writing or musical performance. Listen to swing band favorite Bopology and other local artists perform at this FREE fun event. Rain Date is Thursday, September 7. Barrington’s White House is located at 145 W.
